Hazard and Risk Management

No one is immune to accidents.

Legislation requires due diligence from the employer to show that reasonable measures were taken to prevent an accident and/or injury. We are exposed to many hazards and risk on daily basis both at work and at home.

Depending on the type of business there are different types of health and safety risks. A slip or trip, injury can range from minor bruises or sprain to a broken bone or head trauma. Implementation of standards and effective prevention and safety protocols/procedures can help in developing an environment that is healthy and safe for everyone.

Prepare And Prevent

Prepare and Prevent - Workplace Safety Services NZ

The very first step in eliminating hazard(s) is by understanding and identifying the hazard and who is likely to be exposed, followed by risk evaluation and taking steps to control it. These steps need to be documents to show due diligence. Further reviewing the impact of the intervention to ensure workplace is safe.

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA), every business has a responsibility to ensure the workplace health and Occupational Safety Service of workers. It is the responsibility of business owner that others are not put at risk while working at their business.

Hazard and Risk Management

When it comes to accidents/incidents, people often step in too late. The damage is already done. We need to adhere to more proactive approach. We all know, prevention is far better than cure.

Contact Health and Safety Specialists

It is essential to know one’s strengths and where help should be requested. Each business or workplace does not need to have an expert on health and safety. They can always ask a health and workplace safety specialist to help them assess their workplace and identify opportunities for improvement. The specialist can help in performing a basic safety audit in accordance with workplace safety NZ regulations. The WellForWork safety specialist will then provide a set of policies and procedures to keep the workplace safe and the business protected. This set of safety procedures will ensure compliance with occupational health and safety New Zealand regulations.

Employees Training for Safer Workplace

Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. This idiom is entirely true when it comes to safety and accident prevention at work. If workers have proper training customized to their work environment, they will have the required knowledge and skill to stay safe.

WellForWork can facilitate occupational safety training specific to your needs; train the staff on what they need to know and which practices they can improve. We can provide up-to-date mandatory Workplace Safety New Zealand training resources, like reading materials, courses, and videos.

Provide Employees with the Right Protective Gear

It may sound simple; but you need proper risk assessment to identify appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).  A number of the workplaces we have audited either had people wearing PPE when they did not require or provided PPE which was not fit for purpose.
