This is a day of awareness for people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or other cancerous tumours on the lining of the lungs. It was founded in 2004 by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. This holiday was not established until 2010.
Even though the first official Mesothelioma Awareness Day occurred in 2011, people who are affected by this rare disease still need support and encouragement to find ways to improve their quality of life.
Organizations and advocates run fundraisers and awareness campaigns to raise money and awareness. Events like iWalk4Meso, Miles for Meso, and Kayaking 4 Meso are organized.
